Jeans Wednesday*
*In efforts to raise money for our Christmas Family we are allowing employees to wear jeans on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 for $3. You can pay with cash or check made payable to (Company Name). All funds will go towards providing a gift for each child and providing a meal for the family.
We got this email late yesterday to let us know that we could wear jeans tomorrow (Wednesday) by donating $3 to the family our company is sponsoring this Christmas. Not that I’m against giving money to a family in need, but I hate the fact that I have to give $3 to be able to wear jeans to work. I’ll probably donate some money for this family, but I’ll do it when I feel is right and not so I can get something in return.
Granted, I’m not under any illusion that giving is common occurrence where I work, I know it’s not a natural thing for everybody, and that’s alright. But, what does it say to employees when you teach them that you should get something in return for giving money?
My family tithes regularly to our church already so I don’t feel any obligation to participate in ‘Jeans Day.’
