Let’s play tag

without comments

One of the things quite common in the blogging community is the interaction and support for bloggers in general. One of the ways bloggers interact is with games, and one of my favorite is tag. Thanks to Casey for the idea, I’m gonna start by tagging one of my favorite gals. Read the rest of this entry »

I want this week to be over

with one comment

Things have been so crazy for us this semester. I’m taking 2 classes at our church that are pretty involved and Matt is taking another class in addition. It seems like we’re at church all the time. Church staff lovingly call folks like us unpaid staff. And I couldn’t agree more with that. Read the rest of this entry »

When the heat goes out in Columbia

with 2 comments

I woke up this morning extremely tired from a sleepless night. The weather here in Columbia has been in the 20s at night and our heat happened to go out on us while we slept. Sufficed to say, we didn’t sleep very well trying to huddle together and stay warm. The dogs did the same. Read the rest of this entry »

Holiday shopping

with one comment

Thanksgiving weekend has long been the ultimate shoppers haven for deals on holiday gifts and trinkets. The media outlets all over the country displayed images of seemingly crazy shoppers overtaking stores devouring deals early on Black Friday. Read the rest of this entry »

What are Gazelle Chicks?

with one comment

I was just thinking, and Chaka42 and the rest of you feel free to comment on this, but probably a lot of people out there are not real familiar with the meaning behind our blog title. It’s actually quite simple. We are all ladies who are really into saving money and budgeting. We have read and follow, and some of us even teach, the financial wisdom of Dave Ramsey. One of Dave’s favorite quotations, which is actually from scripture, has significant meaning to us. (Read about it here.)

We chicks are “Gazelle Intense” and actively trying to change our financial situation. We’re pretty happy with how it is going, and encourage others to learn more about money and finances so they can make smart decisions!

School fundraising, bleh. Microsoft Design software? BLEH!

without comments

Ok, I’m not one for school fundraising. I’ll be honest. Maybe it’s because I got burned so many times in my childhood. (Chocolates for choir anyone??) Read the rest of this entry »

December’s almost here and Missouri is #1 in the BCS

Who would have thought that Missouri football would be ranked #1 at the end of the regular season? I know I would have lost that bet. Good thing I’m not a betting woman. Read the rest of this entry »

Jeans Wednesday*

without comments

*In efforts to raise money for our Christmas Family we are allowing employees to wear jeans on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 for $3. You can pay with cash or check made payable to (Company Name). All funds will go towards providing a gift for each child and providing a meal for the family.

We got this email late yesterday to let us know that we could wear jeans tomorrow (Wednesday) by donating $3 to the family our company is sponsoring this Christmas. Not that I’m against giving money to a family in need, but I hate the fact that I have to give $3 to be able to wear jeans to work. I’ll probably donate some money for this family, but I’ll do it when I feel is right and not so I can get something in return.

Granted, I’m not under any illusion that giving is common occurrence where I work, I know it’s not a natural thing for everybody, and that’s alright. But, what does it say to employees when you teach them that you should get something in return for giving money?

My family tithes regularly to our church already so I don’t feel any obligation to participate in ‘Jeans Day.’
